MAYOR YOLANDA FORD, M.ARCH, AIA ASSOC., APA, NRPA

Mayor Yolanda Ford took her first oath of office on July 1, 2013 as the Missouri City District-A Council Member.  She was the fourth female in the history of the City of Missouri City to be elected to a city council position.  More than 5 years later, on December 17, 2019, she made history again by taking oath of office as the first minority, African American and female Mayor of the City of Missouri City, Texas.


Mayor Ford is native of Missouri City, TX. She attended Fort Bend public schools and graduated from John Foster Dulles High School. She earned her Bachelors of Science (B.S) in Psychology from the University of Houston and her Masters of Architecture (M.ARCH) from Prairie View A & M University. 


Over the past 20 years, Mayor Ford’s career quickly accelerated from developing nonprofit programs to overseeing multi-million dollar developments, identifying vast land acquisitions, managing a forty two million dollar fund which includes more than 37,000 acres of parkland inventory and serving as an elected official for one of the fastest growing, diverse suburbs in the United States. 


Mayor Ford is in a relatively small segment of minority, women leaders that are able to build relationships, trust, and rapport with almost anyone, and then leverage those relationships to make connections between people to create partnerships and alliances to ‘get things done.’ She believes in driving positive, sustainable outcomes when it comes to building and improving her community.

 

Enthusiastically and genuinely, she radiates a sincere passion for serving her constituents and delivering results for her business clients.  During her tenure as a Council Member/Mayor Pro Tem, she was a member of several Missouri City committees that include the Community Development Committee, Communication Committee and Infrastructure Committee.  


Professionally, she continues to practice as an urban planner/architectural designer/land development specialist. Her professional associations include being an associate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), a member of the American Planning Association (APA) and the National Recreation Parks Association (NRPA). 


Throughout it all, Mayor Ford has repeatedly proved her ability to lead through diverse and challenging situations. She is an excellent agent of change, mentor, design professional and political official that has a documented track record of accomplishments. Today, she resides in Missouri City, Texas and is always ready for her next opportunity to lead her community to the next level of excellence.
